Biography

I am a former radio announcer and producer, and an advertising product photographer, with a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Minnesota and a Fellowship from the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain. I also edited and wrote several chapters for "Coming Into Focus," published by Chronicle Books.

Any special artistic influences?
Mostly painters, for some reason; Giotto, Bosch, Rembrandt, Homer. My favorite photographers are Lee Friedlander, Robert Frank, and John Baldessari.
What is the best photographic advice that you have ever received?
Pay attention to the edges of the frame, and imagine what you see as a photograph.
If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be?
That is a very good question! I would probably work with wood in some way.
