Biographie

Mark Turner specializes in photographing botanical subjects, especially Northwest wildflowers and gardens. He photographs extensively both in gardens and in a wide range of natural environments. Mark is the photographer of the award-winning Wildflowers of the Pacific Northwest and Bellingham Impressions. He is currently photographing a field guide to northwest trees and shrubs. Mark is married, has two grown sons, and would like to spend more time gardening, hiking, bicycling, and backpacking.

Any special artistic influences?

I was drawn to the work of Edward Weston and Ansel Adams early in my career. More recent photographers include Galen Rowell, Art Wolfe, Jack Dykinga, and David Meunch.

What is the best photographic advice that you have ever received?

There’s a lot of truth to “f/8 and be there.” If you’re not out there working, you can’t create new images. Patience, persistence, preparation and attention to detail all pay off big time.

If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be?

I would be a botanist, naturalist, forester, or science educator.
