Making photos that sell

Maybe some of you are thinking, “What’s the big fuss about selling?” Maybe you are a photo hobbyist and you are gratified just to have your images accepted by a legitimate stock agency where they appear on the internet and you can show them off to your friends.

But maybe you are actually interested in earning money. We welcome you just as you are, and we give you the same fair conditions, whether you are an amateur or a pro. If you want to make photos that sell, you should start by thinking about who will buy your photos.

Buyers who visit stock agencies’ websites for images are solving their business need. To meet those buyers' needs, you have to know what they are. If your thoughts on the matter are, I bet my grandmother would buy my photo (if she was a designer), then probably you aren’t making commercial images. On the other hand, if you know who is buying stock photos, and more or less what their image needs are, than you have a fighting chance of making something that they will need and buy.
