The 22 pairs of autosomes (non-sex chromosomes) are arranged into seven groups: group A (chromosomes 1, 2 and 3), group B (chromosomes 4 and 5), group C (chromosomes 6 to 12), group D (chromosomes 13 to 15), group E (chromosomes 16 to 18), group F (chromosomes 19 and 20), and group G (chromosomes 20 and 21). The twenty-third pair are the X and Y sex chromosomes. The X chromosome is a member of group C, and chromosome Y is a member of group G.
