Loss of habitat and persecution have caused a drastic decline in their numbers and range. Now found in Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska, Canada. Reintroduced in Yellowstone National Park. Occur mostly in packs. Very social, feed mostly on large mammals -Deer and Moose- Do prey on livestock but amount probably exaggerated. Attacks on humans very rare. Have thick coat in winter.
