According to the Buchenwald and Mittelbau-Dora Memorials Foundation, around 2.7 million euros have been invested in the preservation of the building substance from federal and state funds since 2010. According to the foundation, the memorial is the largest in memory of Nazi crimes in Europe. It was inaugurated on 14 September 1958.
