Stock Photo - 22 January 2020, Saxony-Anhalt, Halle: Employees of Maschinenbau und Service GmbH (MSG) in Ammendorf cut corroded metal parts out of the beam in a car body of class 481 of the S-Bahn Berlin using a cut-off grinder. In 2020 alone, the railway will refurbish around 90 vehicles of this series to make them fit for another ten years. Presumably every 20th of the 500 double cars shows severe corrosion damage. These are extensively repaired at MSG in Halle-Ammendorf, where the cars were built between 1997-2004. To do this, parts of the longitudinal beams must be removed and replaced. At the Berlin S-Bahn plant, all vehicles of this series are being renovated and also undergo a facelift. Photo: Jan Woitas/dpa-Zentralbild/dpa. - Halle/Saxony-Anhalt/Germany
