Stock Photo - 22 January 2020, Saxony-Anhalt, Halle: An employee of Maschinenbau und Service GmbH (MSG) in Ammendorf uses a cut-off grinder to cut corroded metal parts from the beam in a class 481 car body of the S-Bahn Berlin. In 2020 alone, the railway will refurbish around 90 vehicles of this series to make them fit for another ten years. Presumably every 20th of the 500 double cars has severe corrosion damage. These are extensively repaired at MSG in Halle-Ammendorf, where the cars were built between 1997-2004. To do this, parts of the longitudinal beams must be removed and replaced.
