Stock Photo - 09 April 2020, Saxony, Leipzig: In the belfry of St. Thomas' Church, the fitter Sven Hirche, from Heidenauer Glockenläute- und Elektroanlagen GmbH, checks the suspension of the oldest and largest bell, the Gloriosa from 1477, on the new wooden construction. The belfry in St. Thomas Church, where Johann Sebastian Bach has his last resting place, had to be restored because of the condition of the bells, wrong suspensions and outdated drive technology. After completion of the first phase of construction, the Gloriosa is to resound again in the next few weeks. For the entire bell project, which also provides for an extension of the ringing by four small bells by the end of 2021, around 500,000 euros are needed.
