Located 90 km southwest of the city of Salta, on the National Route 68, includes part of the departments of La Viña, Guachipas and Cafayate and belongs to the ecoregion of the dry chaco and the mountain range of saws and pockets. This ravine is an area of great scenic beauty with striking rock formations for its reddish colorations. In 1995 it was declared a nature reserve with an area of 25,784 hectares.
