Stock Photo - Viennese Secession architect Otto Wagner´s 1901 Post Office Savings Bank (Österreichische Postsparkasse) roof detail. The massive eight story building takes up an entire city block. Wagner´s wonderful execution celebrates the new modernity trends in architecture through a harmonious balance between form and function. The exterior fascade is covered by marble plates fastened with iron bolts finished with aluminium caps creating a subtle texture. The only tribute to ornamentation are the marvelous female angel statues holding rings of laurel sculpted by Secessionist Othmar Schimkowitz.
