Stock Photo - Feb. 26, 2012 - Artist Leo Rawlings had quite a turn when he woke up out of a trance in front of his painting canvas, for on it was what could only be described as a head and shoulders portrait of Christ. With the door locked on his room and the brushes in front of him still wet: as a spiritual believer he realised he himself had been contacted by the spirit world and used as an instrument to paint the portrait. The last thing before hand, 63-year-old Leo remembers hearing a voice say to him 'Paint my face'! The painting took exactly two days to complete when normally for Leo, who is gradually going blind because of cataracts in both eyes, it would have taken at least three months. Leo of Hapenden, Hertfordshire, England, became internationally recognised as an artist following the publication of sketches and paintings he made in secret while a prisoner of war of a Japanese P.O.W. camp. The drawings depict the conditions and the burial treatment suffered by the prisoners at the hands of the Japanese soldiers along the Death Railway in Burma.
