Stock Photo - Oct. 10, 1966 - 'Panda' Patrol cars in Birmingham.: In Birmingham yesterday, eight policemen went back to the 'village bobby' role as part of a 12 months experiment. The eight policemen can now work any eight-hour shift they choose, and wear civilian clothes whenever the please. They are also expected to mix with the public in their own 'village' pubs, shops and cafes. The men on the beat will be supported by officers in four 'Panda' patrol cars, painted in distinctive white and turquoise colours. Says Birmingham's Chief Constable, Mr. Derrick Capper; 'I feel share-it will result in officers taking a greatly increases interest in their own personal beat!
