Stock Photo - 02 July 2020, Saxony-Anhalt, Zeitz: Christian Späte, sculptor and stonemason, looks at the drawing of a Christ's head with a halo on the outer facade of St. Michael's Church. The fresco was uncovered during renovation work on the west façade and can be dated to around 1500. It is being restored and will remain visible behind a glass pane in the future. In the 19th century, the head of Christ was inside the Chapel of the Saints, which was later demolished. It is possible that the niche in which the drawing is located was once used as a reliquary. The Michaeliskirche was first mentioned in a document in 1154. Originally it was a Romanesque basilica with a cross-shaped ground plan.
