Stock Photo - 04 February 2022, Saxony, Frankenberg: One of the prototypes of a possible successor to the Barkas 1000, the B1100 with a four-stroke engine, which never went into production, is on display in the ""Zeitwerkstadt"" museum. Here, a show highlights the history of the multi-talent with two-stroke engine. In March 1962, the ""fast transporter"" was presented to the world public at the Leipzig Spring Fair. A total of 175,740 Barkas were produced, as minibuses, with flatbeds, as ambulances or fire engines. A lack of investment in successors broke the company's back at the latest at the time of reunification. On April 10, 1991, production in Hainichen was discontinued.
