Due to the ban of the insecticide DDT and intensive protection measures, the populations have recovered in the meantime. A pair of white-tailed eagles has been breeding in the Döberitzer Heide for many years, and their breeding behaviour is regularly observed and documented by volunteer eyrie keepers. Once a year the offspring is ringed. For this purpose, a professional tree climber climbs into the nest. The two young birds are then lowered individually into a bag, quickly ringed and brought back up again. Through ringing, the future behaviour of the birds of prey can be traced for research purposes.
