For the bird of the year 22 nesting boxes have been set up in which 27 chicks have been ringed so far and 21 could be ringed. Nationwide, estimates put the number of Hoopoe breeding pairs in Germany at 800-950, of which up to 400 breed in Brandenburg. The Hoopoe is a particularly distinctive bird with its striking feathered cap and black and white banded wings. It is considered endangered on Germany's Red List 2021.
