Stock Photo - 19 August 2020, Saxony-Anhalt, Mammendorf: Michael Buchwitz, Curator for Geosciences at the Museum of Natural History Magdeburg, is standing in the Mammendorf quarry in front of a clayey ground in which imprints of a mammal can be seen. The trace of the animal is about one day old. The picture is supposed to illustrate how the dinosaur tracks were created, which the scientist is looking for in the quarry. The habitat was relatively dry but the area was regularly flooded by heavy rain. The rainwater evaporated quickly and the loamy soil dried out and petrified. The ichnofauna in Mammendorf is extremely diverse. Photo: Klaus-Dietmar Gabbert/dpa-Zentralbild/ZB. - Mammendorf/Saxony-Anhalt/Germany
