Heavy rain provided relief in the fight against two large forest fires in Brandenburg early Monday morning. Initially, 135 hectares of forest near Treuenbrietzen - 80 kilometers southwest of Berlin - were still burning at night, according to officials at the scene. Shortly after 7:00 a.m., however, the rain became heavier. The rain radar also indicated rainfall and thunderstorms for the next few hours.
