The last and largest young sturgeons are released from this year's breeding in the national park into the freedom of the Oder stream. The stocking of the Oder with young fish, the Baltic sturgeon (Acipenser oxyrinchus), once native to Europe and extinct in the last century, which began in 2007, is now being continued for the twelfth year in succession. This further increases the chances of success of the long-standing project to reintroduce the extinct giant - after all, more than two million young sturgeon have already been released into the national park since the project began. After 12 to 15 years, the experts expect the first repatriates of the released sturgeons. This means that the first specimens will soon be looking for partners in the Oder and could visit the potential spawning grounds in the river.
