Stock Photo - 24 September 2022, Tanzania, Arusha: A marabou (Leptoptilos crumeniferus) lands in the Ngorongoro Crater at a rest area for tourists located at Lake Makat. In the background, a young woman walks carrying a lunch box with food. The birds are very useful as carrion and pest exterminators, but are also found near human settlements as waste and litter removers. Like the other giant craters, Ngorongoro is not part of the Serengeti, but was carved out as a protected area in 1956 and declared a Conservation Area because of its habitat for the Masai. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) was declared a Man and Biosphere Reserve in 1971 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. Photo: Soeren Stache/dpa. - Arusha/Tanzania/Tanzania
