Stock Photo - 25 February 2021, Lower Saxony, Brunswick: The Braunschweig State Museum, housed in the so-called Vieweghaus, on Burgplatz can be seen through the archways of the passage between the cathedral (l) and Dankwarderode Castle. The former residential and publishing house was built in 1799-1804 for the Berlin publisher Friedrich Vieweg (1761-1835). The four-winged complex, built on a trapezoidal ground plan around a central courtyard, is one of the most important classicist buildings in Germany, not least because of its archaic Doric style elements, which are only partially recognisable today, and its clear, austere forms. The building was thoroughly renovated in 1981-85 to make it the headquarters of the Braunschweig State Museum. The main location on Braunschweig's Burgplatz is expected to be closed until 2027. For 47.5 million euros, the state of Lower Saxony wants to overhaul the aging building from the ground up. Photo: Stefan Jaitner/dpa. - Brunswick/Lower Saxony/Germany
