The trees had died after two years of drought and because of the bark beetle and had been felled. The spruces are now used to produce pulp and wood for pallets. Some of it even goes to China as construction timber. The forest inspection in the city forest of Wernigerode took place on the fringes of the ""Forest Generation Dialogue"" in which the Federal Commissioner is participating. The organizer is the Schutzgemeinschaft Deutscher Wald Bundesverband (SDW). At the conference, young adults will deal with forest issues such as tourism, education or health and discuss the current situation in the forest in connection with drought and insect infestation.
