Since January 2020, the tradition-rich museum building at the foot of Altenburg's Schlossberg has been closed due to upcoming renovation, modernization and expansion work. The federal and state governments are funding the renovation of the museum, including the ducal stables and park, with a total of 48 million euros in the coming years.
