On the Oder River itself, the old railway bridge between Küstrin-Kietz and Kostrzyn in Poland is currently being dismantled. Before construction began, explosive ordnance experts and archaeologists had examined the area. Due to heavy fighting during the Second World War, the construction site was heavily contaminated with munitions. According to the design of the bridge planners of the company Schüßler-Plan Berlin, in cooperation with Knights Architects London, a 130-metre network arch bridge will later span the Oder.
