Stock Photo - A Sydney man has been reunited with his beloved dog Whiskey, six months after firefighters rescued the pair from a dangerous fire in South Penrith. Fire & Rescue NSW firefighters returned the happy Pomeranian to owner Gordon Wiggins yesterday following his release from hospital. Gordon suffered burns to almost 50% of his body after the blaze on the 10th December and was found lying unconscious outside his home. The firefighters rescued two dogs from inside the building, one of which sadly died, but after using oxygen therapy to revive 5yr old Whiskey they took him to the Nepean Animal Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and substantial burns and he recovered. Whiskey's hospital bill was $15000 but the hospital generously offered to cover the bill for the treatment and medication. He still has some scarring on his back and a cough due to smoke inhalation but other than that he is back to his normal self. Antony Crowe, one of the firefighters at the scene, volunteered to take care of Whiskey while Gordon recovered and took him to the hospital to visit Gordon during his rehabilitation. Now that Gordon is recovered, Antony returned Whiskey to him yesterday. “As firefighters we don’t often get to see what happens to people once we finish at a fire scene, so it’s been really rewarding to meet Gordon and follow his recovery. If I hadn’t taken Whiskey I never would have had that opportunity,” said Antony. Where: Sydney, Australia When: 12 Jun 2017 Credit: WENN.com
