Stock Photo - dpatop - 02 May 2023, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Wöbbelin: The 96-year-old Salomon Birnbaum from New York (USA), a survivor from the Wöbbelin subcamp, follows the commemoration ceremony 78 years after the liberation of the camp. Together with relatives of survivors from France, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Canada, the Netherlands and the USA, church representatives and politicians commemorate the victims. More than 1,000 prisoners died here from disease, hunger and exhaustion as a result of the extreme prison conditions. On May 2, 1945, soldiers of the 82nd U.S. Airborne Division liberated the Wöbbelin reception camp. Photo: Jens Büttner/dpa. - Wöbbelin/Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania/Germany
