Vandereycken has been missing since June 2017. His body has not been found to date. On Saturday 3 June 2017, Vandereycken was last seen at a pharmacy in Genk. Marc Castermans was arrested at the end of June. On July 27, 2017, the victim's Peugeot was removed from the Albert Canal in Gellik (Lanaken). Castermans had put the car up for sale, but the buyer was not interested in a car whose interior was covered in blood.
