Because of that President of the Government Pedro Sánchez sent the Moroccan King Mohamed VI a letter in which the Spanish president states that the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco is the most “serious, realistic and credible”. This position sparked criticism in Spain, as it breaks with its traditional neutrality in the territory. Algeria, a historical ally of the Polisario Front, also denounced that it was not notified of the decision and the Saharawis accuse the Spanish Executive of treason.
