Klaus Schuetz (of Germany's Social Democratic Party SPD) was a close associate of late German Chancellor Willy Brandt. He succeeded Mr Albertz as Berlin's Lord Mayor in 1967 and led the city government until his resignation on May 2nd 1977. The same year he was appointed German ambassador in Israel, an office he held until 1981. From 1981 to 1987 he served as director of Germany's international braodacasting company 'Deutsche Welle' in Cologne. From 1987 to 1993 he led so called 'Landesanstalt für Rundfunk Nordrhein-Westfalen' (North Rhine Westphalia's State Office in charge of broadcasting stations), where he was responsible for the granting of licenses to newly established private broadcasting companies.
