The border is called heimedslane and is a bare strain of land rasching to the Baltic sea in the North and the Bavarian woods in the south offleben the small town near helmstedt is the central points of this permanent struggle. One section originally belonged to the soviet zone, when the Allies marked the border in 1945. west Germany obtained this part of offleben - since when a continuous struggles has been going on between east and west in the area. So the nerve- racing fight went on and to avoid paonsible complete occupation by the East German border police and stechament of the west Germany police occupied the small town of offlebu and reaccund 500 people. But still the terror continues - and the east Germany police shoot at any body - or anything that even harmlessly walks along in the nor men blond. whether they be forest men - farmers, frontier officials or escapees.
