Samadi for prosperity and World Peace.: About 200 people looked on some amused and some with awe as 56 year old Kananese mystic Shri Narayan Acharya started his six days sojourn in a pit in which he was buried in the rajghat grounds, Calcutta. He intends to remain in the pit for nine days. Shri Narayan Acharys is married and has a five year old child and he speaks English. He comes from a poor prestly family of Kusnur, in the Dharwar district of Bombay. He has been at the Rajghat grounds since last November preparing for his underground trance. For two monts he has lived on bananas and 1 1/2 seers of milk a day. On Sunday 25th. January before the start of his fast he feasted all day, as the day was an Ekadeshi (Traditional Fast day). Monday and Tuesday he had Milk and water and on Wednesday on water only. At Dawn on Thursday when he entered the pit he went on a complete fast, as the stomach needs to be empty and clean he said. He entered the pit with all due Hindu ceremony associated with the Hindu rituals, bananas - coconuts- turmerzo, vermilion, flowers and lamps with wicks dipped in ghee.etc. Photo shows Shir Narayan Acharya before the start of his fast which ends on Feb. 7th.
