Stock Photo - Australian pro surfer Mick Fanning was attacked by a shark measuring 4-5 metres in length at the finals of the J-Bay Samsung Galaxy Open today (19Jun15). The shark bit through Fanning's leash, dragging him under water in front of a packed beach of spectators and fans. Fanning, ranked number 2 in world surfing this year, was waiting for his first wave of the finals against Australian surfer, Julian Wilson. Both surfers were immediately evacuated from the water and competition was stopped. This is world's first incident of a shark attack during an international surfing contest. Many of the best surfers in the world, including Gabriel Medina and Kelly Slater were in the same waters moments earlier.
