Stock Photo - City and church owes its name derived from the Athens merchant Giles, who was here in the 7th Century as a hermit settled and founded the Benedictine monastery of Saint-Gilles. Giles was later -Saint Gilles-, and raised to the saints, he is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. According to legend, he is buried in the crypt of the abbey church of Saint-Gilles.
