Stock Photo - Dspeñaperros Natural Park, located in the province of Segovia in the autonomous region of Castile and Leon, Spain, is an important natural area inhabited by a variety of plant and animal species. Covering an area of nearly 13,500 hectares, the park is made up of limestone outcroppings, deep valleys, pine forests and pictoresque meadows. It is designated a Special Protected Area of the European Union's Natura 2000 network, for the preservation of its populations of Griffon Vulture, Golden Eagle and Bonelli's Eagle. Development of the area for agricultural and human settlement dates back centuries, but it wasn't until 1994 that the Dspeñaperros Natural Park was officially created. It is now managed by the Administration of Castilla Leon, under the Department of Environment and Rural Development. In addition to its vast flora and fauna, Dspeñaperros Natural Park is also home to numerous architectural and historical interests, such as the ruins of old castles and fortresses.
