On the left side of the image, past the entrance to a road bridge is the Green Dragon public house, a timber-framed building with arch braces and a jettied top floor with four gables, three of which can be seen. Past the public house is St Swithin's Church, built between 1869-71 by James Flower in the Early English style. The double-height roofs of the nave and chancel can be seen, as well as the the top two of three stages of the west tower. In the background is the west end and crossing tower of St Mary's Cathedral Church, which was founded between c1072-c1092 and remodelled between c1180-c1200. The image shows the two west towers and the south octagonal corner turret with octagonal spire, and the crossing tower, which also has octagonal spires at each corner. In the foreground is a street view which shows local buses and two general stores on the ground floors of the houses.
