The competition was founded by Col. Sir Howard Vincent, A.D.C. to King Edward VII - when he offered a silver Challenge shield to be competed for by the ancient regiments 'As often as may be convenient'. The matches are held alternately in England and the States. Photo Shows Lieut. Vincent Vella - uses his carbide lamp for blacking the sights of his rifle - prior to shooting at Bisley today. the carbide lamps are part of the unit equipment - for this purpose.
