The wealthy banker Enrico Scrovegni, kneeling, raises his hand towards the one outstretched by the Virgin Mary, flanked by St. John the Evangelist and St. Catherine of Alexandria; he bears in hommage a free model of the same chapel in which the fresco was made, aided in that by the archpriest Altegrado de 'Cattanei, his confessor, who supports the weight; on the left is a group of saints with the palm of martyrdom, while on the right side is the cross of the Passion.
