Stock Photo - Montaña de Riaño is a region that encompasses several municipalities of Leon (Spain), located northeast of the province of Leon. It is bordering with the province of Palencia, as well as the regions of Asturias and Cantabria. Occupying the entire northeast of the province, Mountain Riano, long stretches of the upper half of the river Esla and two headers; from the City of Crémenes to Tangle and the Port of Tarna, on the one hand, and Llánaves Queen and Puerto de San Glorio other. It also includes the head of the Cea River in Prioro. Historically, the whole mountain has settled its economy mainly on livestock; but presented today in most of its towns, a generalized decline accompanied by a marked emigration sometimes exceeding 70%. From its landscapes to its faunal and botanical aspects, this is a Cantabrian mountain area undoubtedly spectacular. Flooded by a dam its main valley and destroyed its old capital, Riano; Riano is today, a new village perched on its banks, ushering the two most privileged valleys of the province of León for its exceptional conditions such as natural reserves: Valley of Sajambre and Valdeón; which it is the same as saying Picos de Europa. Both belong to the Cantabrian basin and are currently projecting the compatibility between human settlements and the expansion of the National Park which was renamed Covadonga National Park Picos de Europa.
