After landing in Golfe-Juan, on March 1, 1815, Napoleon took the Alpine Road (Route Napoléon present) to win Paris, considered safer route than the Rhone Valley deemed favorable to the royalists. It then passes through the Matheysin plateau. After spending the night of March 6 in Corps, it goes through La Mure then heads to Grenoble. March 7 at Laffrey, the plain is a battalion of the 5th line sent by Louis XVIII to stop it. Napoleon advanced alone in front of the troops on what is now called the ""Prairie de la Rencontre"" and first spoke thus: ""Soldiers of the 5th line, I am your Emperor, acknowledge me! ""Then, in front indecision pale with emotion soldiers facing him, he came within range, half opened his coat and said:"" If there is among you a soldier who would kill his Emperor, Here I am ""At these words, the 5th line laid down their arms and rushed towards Napoleon crying ....
