He accused leadership of the Russian Orthodox Church that they actually initiated the prosecution of members of Pussy Riot. Sergey Baranov was deprived of priestly ranks in Septemeber 2012. Baranov was supported by Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs Karel Schwarzenberg and decided to go to the Czech Republic. He received asylum on 9 April 2013.
