Stock Photo - View of Sunderland and the Iron Bridge looking eastwards, 1833. This single span cast iron bridge over the Wear at Wearmouth, Sunderland, was opened in 1796. This engraving after Thomas Allom (1804-1872) shows the original bridge before its reconstruction by Robert Stephenson in 1858-1859. In the foreground trading vessels are moored at the keyside and at middle right are railway wagons bringing minerals to be loaded onto the vessel at the staithe, centre.
