The Norman knight Gelduin received Chaumont and reinforced the fortress. Significant restoration work was carried out from 1833 to 1843 by the Count of Aramon. The architect Paul_Ernest Sanson continued the restoration work on a much larger scale. He restored the East wing, adding a small passageway decorated with shells on the side of the park and the grand courtyard.
