Biography

My mother, Gay Bumgarner, was one of the few early women in the field of wildlife photography. My daughter also has the eye and a fire in her being for the best shot. Hence, "Mother-Daughter Press". I write about the subjects of the photos on our website & blog (www.Gaybumgarner.com). I am also a physician and scientist. I investigate how social-cultural forces influence health and vitality in individuals and communities; including the effects of visual images on physiology and healing.

My mother and through her we developed Mother-Daughter Press to encourage a creative conversation connecting many areas of science and art.

What is the best photographic advice that you have ever received?

Learn to create a place where your subject wants to be and invite them in. Smile when someone asks "is it real?" and then talk about the plants and animals in the pictures.

If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be?

to sing like Eva Cassady and Clarence Beckker & speak like Clarissa Pinkola Estes and David Whyte.
