Biography

Born in Tuscany in 1955, Nico Tondini began practicing photography in 1975, mostly devoting himself to black-and-white portraits.He traveled to all the continents, publishing reports of tourism in Italy and abroad. Thanks to his interest in food and cookery, he soon began writing and illustrating recipes and food articles. Tondini's food photographs illustrate many cooking books.

Any special artistic influences?

I love the images of Robert Doisneau, the colors of Chagall, the folly of Miro, the absence of color of Salgado, and the simple genius of Picasso.<br />

What is the best photographic advice that you have ever received?

Do not stop where all the people stops, turn around and see all sides of a thing, a person, before taking a photo. Closer and closer to the subject. Always be modest, the tests never end...

If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be?

A chef. I love to cook and create new recipes. I start cooking when I was 6 y.o.
