Biography

I'm a Singapore-based photographer, architect and writer with a focus on street, documentary and travel photography. My photographs have been exhibited at photo festivals and venues in London, Hong Kong and Delhi and I have been a contributor to international clients such as CNN, The Daily Beast, Discovery Channel Magazine as well as German news outlets such as Stern, Süddeutsche Zeitung and Der Tagesspiegel amongst others. www.olafschuelke.com

Any special artistic influences?

The work of Henry Cartier-Bresson, James Nachtwey and Alex Webb in terms of approaching a subject as well as composition. The genre of street photography fascinates me for its authenticity.

What is the best photographic advice that you have ever received?

I can't recall anyone ever given me such advice. To remain calm, observant and ready at all times are probably the most important characteristics that I would give to anyone shooting in public.

If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be?

Most likely an architect again, meaning, getting back to my previous job as a trained professional architect or become a full-time stay-at-home dad.
