Throughout the late 16th and early 17th centuries, Ferdinand II kept a vigilant watch on Protestantism, passing new laws and launching military action to put it down. He was especially vigilant in repelling Protestant insurgencies in his territories, particularly in Bohemia. He arranged multiple military campaigns and battles to quash man Protestant uprisings and maintain Catholic dominance in the region.
