Foto de stock - PRODUCTION - 17 October 2023, Saxony, Döbrichau: Harald Alex (l) and his wife Gudrun pluck red spice threads from the first harvested saffron crocuses (Crocus sativus) on their garden table in northern Saxony. Horticultural expert Harald Alex has planted some 13,000 tubers on 130 square meters to grow saffron, one of the world's most expensive spices, and hopes for a bountiful harvest. Alex is one of the co-initiators who want to revive saffron cultivation in central Germany, which has been cultivated for four thousand years, with a ""Saffron Road"" and offer it as a tourist attraction. The plant, which is cultivated especially in the Aegean region, is known as a spice, medicinal and dyeing plant.
