Foto de stock - Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640). The Blinding of Samson. ca. 1609-1610. Oil on panel. 37. 5 x 58. 5 cm. . . Rubens is considered the greatest Flemish Baroque artist of the 17th century. He produced altarpieces, portraits, landscapes, allegorical, mythological and history paintings. His compositions evoke a nostalgia for Antiquity while offering a great sense of dynamism, vitality and sensuality. Highly successful at his time, he lived in Antwerp and traveled to Italy, Spain and England. In Italy he intensely studied the Greek and Roman statuary and the great masters of the Renaissance. He was knighted by both Philip IV of Spain and Charles I of England. . . This monochrome painting depicts the Old Testament hero in the dramatic moment in which he is captured by the Philistines, who put out his eyes and take him prisoner. Samson is betrayed by his lover Delilah, who uncovers the secret of his great strength to the Philistines. While Samson slept on her lap, Delilah called a man to shave off the seven braids of his hair and turned him over to his captors.
