Foto de stock - Hiang Tian Shang Ti temple (Deity of The North) celebration in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia is one of the oldest and largest Chinese temples in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. It is believed that the temple was founded by Chinese immigrants who migrated to the city in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and who held great respect and admiration for the Spirit of the North Star. The temple today celebrates the deity of The North every year on the 30th day of the 1st lunar month. The celebration traditionally involves a gathering of devotees who pay homage to the deity by offering incense, oil lamps, and fruit offerings. They also pray to gods while chanting mantras and sutras in chanting derived from Buddhist and folk beliefs. Prayers are offered to thank the deity for guidance and prosperity and to seek for his blessing for safety, good health, and success in life. Afterward, devotees can patronize the temple’s guardian Ka-ki (Jumbo) and the Tai-sui (God of the Year). In recent years, the celebration has become more versatile and creative. It involves various activities such as cultural performances, music performances, and food stalls filled with delicious food. Both the locals and tourists are celebrating the event
